Welcome to Direct English Online UNIT 26

In Unit 26, the Conversation section consists of a video and dialogs which present and develop the video drama storyline. The purpose of the dialogs is to introduce the new language forms you will be learning and enable you to experience real English in real situations and explanations of any new language items are provided in easily recognisable drop down boxes.

You will find that a systematic and methodical approach to your study will maximize your ability to understand and utilize the new language.

The Language Study and Practice section gives you the opportunity to practice the language from the Conversation or Presentation section in new contexts. Clear instructions and guides are given to help explain what to do and Language Notes give you detailed information about grammar and usage.

LESSON 1: WHERE? + MOVEMENT / DIRECTION

In this lesson you’re going to:

• learn how to use when, before and after as conjunctions
• using prepositions to describe movement and position
• practice the above to arrange a precise meeting place at an airport

LESSON 2: WHEN? – SCHEDULES

In this lesson you’re going to:

• revise all the prepositions you have learned so far for time references
• practice the above to arrange meetings, appointments, etc. while referring to two different schedules

LESSON 3: DESCRIPTIONS: BIG ISSUES

In this lesson you’re going to practice talking about big issues, such as:

•  employment, including qualifications, benefits and taxes
•  inflation, including interest rates and the cost of living
•  student loans, including loan repayment 
•  trade, including imports, exports and free trade
