Welcome to Direct English Online UNIT 25

In Unit 25, the Conversation section consists of a video and dialogs which present and develop the video drama storyline. The purpose of the dialogs is to introduce the new language forms you will be learning and enable you to experience real English in real situations and explanations of any new language items are provided in easily recognisable drop down boxes.

You will find that a systematic and methodical approach to your study will maximize your ability to understand and utilize the new language.

The Language Study and Practice section gives you the opportunity to practice the language from the Conversation or Presentation section in new contexts. Clear instructions and guides are given to help explain what to do and Language Notes give you detailed information about grammar and usage.

LESSON 1: TALKING ABOUT YOURSELF

In this lesson you’re going to learn how to:

• use different phrases to express agreement
• use different phrases to express partial agreement
• use different phrases to express disagreement
• ask someone his / her opinion
• state your opinion
• give examples to illustrate your opinion

LESSON 2: TALKING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE

In this lesson you’re going to learn how to:

• say what someone else thinks should be done and why
• refer to quantity using too many, too few and not enough
• refer to quantity using too much, too little and not enough

LESSON 3: POLITE REQUESTS, ETC.

In this lesson you’re going to learn how to:

• say you’re going to obtain particular services (e.g. having your hair cut, your eyes tested, your suit cleaned, your car serviced)
• distinguish between jobs you can do yourself and those which you pay someone else to do for you.
